Serge Merlaud est un guitariste dont la musique reflète divers univers musicaux. Ses première formations ont été l’étude parallèle de la guitare jazz avec Jean-Marie Pallen et de la guitare classique avec Marie Solies au Conservatoire du 11ème arrondissement de Paris.
Même s’il a travaillé principalement comme un guitariste de jazz, il a également pratiqué la guitare classique notamment en enregistrant en 1998 L’album”transcriptions” dans lequel il joue la musique de JS Bach arrangée pour 4 guitares par Frédéric Sylvestre (ALPHEE).
Musicien de jazz vivant à Paris, le parcours de Serge Merlaud comprends un bon nombre de collaborations notamment avec des musiciens tels que: Sylvan Beuf, Nguyen Lê, Olivier Ker Ourio-, Carine Bonnefoy, Edouard Ferlet, Alain Jean-Marie, Olivier Hutman, Michel Perez, Gilles Naturel Jean-Marc Jaffet. Serge Merlaud a également accompagné de nombreux chanteurs tels que: Marc Thomas, Sara Lazarus, Isabelle Carpentier, Roger Letson, Laura Littardi et Tierney Sutton.

During the winter of 2012 Merlaud recorded the album “Paris Sessions” with singer Tierney Sutton and bassist Kevin Axt. The CD is an intimate collection of classic jazz ballads, bossa novas of personal compositions and received a Grammy nomination for “Best Vocal Jazz Album.” Two songs from this project were also included on the 2013 nominated album at Tierney Sutton’s Grammy Awards “After Blue” which also features Peter Erskine, Hubert Laws, Al Jarreau and Larry Goldings.
